Item Description

Pretty blush-purple gemmy amethyst crystals with waxy luster are set in a sculptural dense forest atop the quartz matrix on this showy and excellent combination from the ancient mines at Cavnic. The crystals reach about 3.0 cm on this impressive 360-degree specimen. The bit of periphery wear and few broken crystals have minimal impact to the overall richnes and quality of this fine piece. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 6647 and acquired as a gift from famous European collector and dealer, Fred Cassirer, in March, 1972. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). The purple color is a bit richer, than most amethyst you see from here. Undoubtedly old-time material, but no proof. Valued at $400. Classic European amethyst.
