Item Description

A classic Amethyst crystal from Crystal Hill (often referred to as La Garita by the locals). The crystal is in very good shape with very sharp and rather lustrous faces. The upper half of the crystal has a desirable purple color which grades into a colorless/slightly smoky hue at the base. The piece shows a distinctive trigonal shape, resembling a "Muzo" habit Quartz crystal. There are three very pronounced prism faces with three alternating very thin prism faces, giving the crystal more of a Tourmaline appearance. This piece was collected by the late Clarence Coil (former digging partner and friend of Rich Kosnar) in the summer of 1963, and was a gift to Rich Kosnar in 1976. A label from both collections accompanies the specimen, and Rich Kosnar's catalogue number (Ameth3C) is hand painted on the base of the crystal. A beautiful miniature sized piece of this well known and relatively hard to find material.
