Item Description

This piece is a bit different from a lot of the Amethysts you'll see from Brandberg on the market. Typically, you'll find either single crystals (or a couple crystals intergrown) and they often show some kind of internal "phantom" color zoning. Additionally, a lot of the Brandberg Amethysts show either scepter or "fenster" (window) habits. This piece is different in the sense that the crystals are traditional, textbook hexagonal prisms with no real scepter growth that I can see. The color ranges from nearly colorless to a rich dark "grape jelly" purple hue in areas. Some crystals have much more purple than others, and the areas of color are completely vary widely from crystal to crystal. Also, it's important to note that these Amethysts are on matrix, which is also not terribly common to see in specimens from this area. Most of the crystals are damage free, though you can see a few nicks here and there. They look beautiful up close, especially when backlit. The largest Amethyst measures 2.1 cm long. A really cool specimen of this now classic material. We value this one at $1,500. From the Collection of Shields Flynn.
