Item Description

LARGE AND RARE COLO AMETHYST with sulfides! Amethyst and sphalerite specimens from the famous Commodore Mine are a Colorado classic. This impressive, 3-dimensional, CABINET, specimen is fully covered with blooms of glassy, pretty lavender amethyst over a thin rind of sphalerite. You can see a few sphalerites poking out in the top half of the piece. The underlying matrix is a rhyolite breccia. Interesting. Very nearly pristine, this large piece has only one small spot of bruising to the amethsyt. Outstanding large combination material from this noted locale from the Cassius L. Tillman III Collection. valued $750-1000
