Item Description

Mineral specimens of ANY species are RARE from the less well-known Chocolate Mts of Imperial County. Well-crystallized amethyst is unheard of and this is a unique and superb old-time specimen. Very glassy, transparent, sharply terminated quartz crystals have limpid colorless terminations with super, rich grape-purple interior phantoms. The crystals reach about 2.5 cm on this striking mounded hemisphere. The modest bit of noted interior bruising, mostly to smaller crystals, is certainly acceptable in the context of this RARE old-timer. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 612 and acquired from the Bradley's in the 1950s from an "old" collection. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). Unique and beautiful California amethyst valued at $500. A MUST for the California or species collector!
