Item Description

There are countless Quartz crystals from thousands of worldwide localities out there, but there are a few places that produce some truly iconic and eye-catching examples. The Brandberg area in the Erongo Region of Namibia are certainly some of the most distinctive and alluring Quartz crystals found in the modern era of mineral collecting. Of the thousands of Quartz crystals found from the Brandberg Area, a very small percentage of them have color like this piece. This is from an older find in the Goboboseb Mts, and features a very sharp, lustrous, gemmy, prismatic hexagonal crystal of Quartz with rich Siberian purple Amethyst color throughout 2/3 of the piece. The base of the crystal is essentially colorless (faint purple spots can be seen), but the majority of the piece is the darkest hue I've ever seen for Amethyst from this area. The color is so saturated that I can't even get light to come through all the way. With strong backlighting, you can see the intense purple hue, with slight red flashes (possibly from Hematite inclusions?). There is a bit of etching on the surface, but the crystal is complete all around. You simply don't see these on the market, and it's a must-have for any fan of Quartz/Amethyst, gem crystals or minerals from Namibia/Africa. A fantastic specimen of these now classic Quartz crystal dating back to what was an earlier discovery based upon the information from those who are very familiar with the material. These are RARE folks, so if you collect Quartz crystals or Namibian minerals, don't pass it up, as we don't have another to offer in the auctions.
