Item Description

A RARE for the locale, 2 mm bubble, is prominently visible in one face of this classic and excellent OLD large amethyst crystal from Amatitlan. The gemmy, lustrous, glassy crystal has classic tapered form with a colorless termination. The chevron-shaped pretty grape-purple interior phantoms and stepped-growth faces add much pizzazz to this fine beauty. Complete all-around. One mostly out-of-sight prism face and edge is bruised near the termination and is partially contacted, where other crystals once lay, but is certainly only a minimal detraction to this very fine old large rarity. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 16 and acquired from someone after a trip to Mexico in 1955. Iguala is a city near Amatitlan. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). RARE, perhaps unique Guerrero amethyst with a bubble! Value?? We have never seen one from here with a water bubble, only from other localities!
