Item Description

Ametrine is a rare variety of Quartz in which both natural purple and yellow Quartz (AMEthyst + ciTRINE) can be seen. The finest representations of these specimens are only found at the Anahi Mine in Bolivia. When these crystals are sliced along the "c" axis, they sometimes form alternating "radiation" pattern of purple and yellow triangles. The colors are oriented in order to create the well-known bi-colored gems. I've mentioned this before, but it should be noted that specimens labeled as coming from Brazil are false because the Bolivian material is sometimes sent to Brazil for processing / polishing, and then they slap a "Made in Brazil" sticker on them, but everything is found in Bolivia. Here we have a fine quality Ametrine carving in the shape of a lizard sunning itself on a rocky ledge. The piece was carved by hand has excellent detail as you can see from the photos. The piece is mostly purple in color, but there are thin areas of yellow that can be seen along the right side of the lizard's torso and in the tail as well. It should be noted that natural yellow Quartz is incredibly rare in nature, as most of the commercial material on the market is created by heating Amethyst to create the yellow color. A very cool carving of this classic material. The fine detail along with the uniqueness of the pieces make it a worthwhile pickup for a fan of gem carvings. It would also make a nice colorful addition to a curio cabinet, or even a gift for a loved one.. The piece weighs 43.8 grams.
