Item Description

Ametrine is a special bi-colored variety of Quartz, and although it has been reported from a few world localities, the most well-known and finest examples are those from Bolivia. It actually took a while for the public to accept that Ametrine was from Bolivia, as a large percentage of the material was sent to Brazil for processing years ago, and left the factories with stickers attached that said "Product of Brazil" on them. In response, the local Bolivian miners started calling Ametrine "Bolivianite" and declared it the national gemstone of their home country. To this day there has never been a confirmed discovery of Ametrine in Brazil. Ametrine is a naturally occurring purple and yellow bi-color variety that is formed by a unique twin law ("Brazil Law Twinning") where two separate individually colored crystals are intergrown to form an alternating "radiation" pattern of purple and yellow triangles when viewed down the c axis. This two colors are oriented from these crystals to cut the famous bicolor gemstones. Keep in mind that the yellow portions of these gems is NATURAL Citrine, which is incredibly rare, as the majority of the Citrine on the gem market is heated or irradiated in order to create the color. This particular gem is a one-of-a-kind, superb, well cut, 10/90 purple/yellow bicolor, virtually eye clean "Concave Round" cut gemstone where the facets on the pavillion actually are cut INTO the stone itself. The stone is mostly yellow in color, but there is a small amount of purple in one corner. It is a really flashy and colorful gem, and will probably end up being a great bargain for one lucky bidder. The retail value on this gem is $40 per carat. It has come to my attention that the mine is no longer in production of this material and the market has quickly "dried up". Don't miss this opportunity to own a special, colorful, large, naturally occuring gem with a really cool cut.
