Item Description

Ametrine is a special bi-colored variety of Quartz, and although it has been reported from a few world localities, the most well-known and finest examples are those from Bolivia. It actually took a while for the public to accept that Ametrine was from Bolivia, as a large percentage of the material was sent to Brazil for processing years ago, and left the factories with stickers attached that said "Product of Brazil" on them. In response, the local Bolivian miners started calling Ametrine "Bolivianite" and declared it the national gemstone of their home country. To this day there has never been a confirmed discovery of Ametrine in Brazil. Ametrine is a naturally occurring purple and yellow bi-color variety that is formed by a unique twin law ("Brazil Law Twinning") where two separate individually colored crystals are intergrown to form an alternating "radiation" pattern of purple and yellow triangles when viewed down the c axis. This two colors are oriented from these crystals to cut the famous bicolor gemstones. Here we have a natural, thick, bi-color, purple and yellow, colorful polished slice of Ametrine. The piece is pretty gemmy and shows true NATURAL (UNHEATED) yellow Citrine, which is incredibly rare in nature surrounded by purple Amethyst. If you turn the slab in different directions, you can actually get the color zones to change and show blue and pink hues! The best part of this piece is the fact that the outer "rind" is almost completely intact, save the bottom edge. The piece weighs 246 grams, and is quite thick compared to most Ametrine slabs we've had in the past. If you've always wanted a good quality and richly colored piece of this classic and hard to find material, don't miss out on this one as it has a wonderful "radiation" pattern, which is the most desirable for the material. Priced at $1,500 in the inventory.
