Item Description
Classic and deceptive andradite garnets from the well-known Stanley Butte area of Arizona. The sculptural mounded miniature is densely covered with sharp, lustrous, translucent, textbook andradite dodecahedrons, to 8 mm. Deceptive, in that the prisms appear to be chocolate-brown under normal lighting, BUT back lighting reveals the glassy garnets are actually a rich golden-olive hue! Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 4711 and acquired from the Shale's in the Fall of 1966. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). A fine and rich example of the species and locale.
