Around 2010 these superb Demantoid Garnets from Madagascar made a huge splash on the market. The best pieces certainly hold their own against the classic examples from Russia or the Italian Alps, and will go down as some of the finest Demantoids in the world. At this point, we're told that there will not be more of these pieces, so this is a great opportunity for Garnet collectors to purchase a fine quality display specimen of this highly sought after variety of Andradite. Please note that under halogen lights, the crystals appear a bit lighter in color, but under mercury bulbs, the color is very intense Several large, sharp, slightly modified dodecahedral crystals of Demantoid with unusual stepped growth lines on the crystal faces sit atop of a white to off-white color mound of metamorphosed sedimentary rock. Internally, the crystals are translucent with a deep yellow-green hue. The largest crystal has a somewhat skeletal or "hoppered" appearance, and is not damaged, but simply has an irregular growth.
