Around 2010 these superb Demantoid Garnets from Madagascar made a huge splash on the market. The best pieces certainly hold their own against the classic examples from Russia or the Italian Alps, and will go down as some of the finest Demantoids in the world. At this point, we're told that there will not be more of these pieces, so this is a great opportunity for Garnet collectors to purchase a fine quality display specimen of this highly sought after variety of Andradite. Please note that under halogen lights, the crystals appear a bit lighter in color, but under mercury bulbs, the color is stronger. You can see there are several good sized, sharp, lustrous, modified dodecahedral crystals of Demantoid sitting on matrix. Internally, the crystals are gemmy / translucnet with a lovely golden-green hue. The largest crystal measures 9 mm across. A good quality and showy small cabinet with highly attractive crystals. Please note that this piece is labeled as Topazolite, the golden colored variety of Andradite, but I think it's more green than gold, so we're calling it Demantoid. Priced at $1,250 in the inventory.
