Item Description

The green variety of Andradite Garnet is called Demantoid because it has a notably high dispersion and refractive index, close to Diamond, hence the name. They are some of the most sought after and valuable Garnets out there. This beautiful thumbnail features fine, well-formed, gemmy, gorgeous green colored crystals measuring up to 1.0 cm associated with thin prismatic white Quartz crystals on matrix. The Demantoids are predominantly dodecahedral in habit with minor trapezohedral modification. There are a few small dings on the top portion of the main Demantoid, so it's not perfect, but it's still an impressive example of this hard to find material (specifically from the Green Dragon Mine). It's a must have for any fan of gem crystals, Garnets or minerals of Namibia. From the Collection of Shields Flynn.
