Item Description
Melanite is the dark titanoan variety of andradite garnet and is rare from the very famous Franklin Mining District. Sharp, lustrous, blackish-brown dodecahedrons to 2.0 cm are nicely clustered on matrix on this showy and excellent old-timer from the Dennis Mullane Collection. Comes with a faded old paper label. The piece dates to the 1960s or 70s, or possibly much older. Classic and uncommon material from this locale.
