Melanite is the black titanoan variety of andradite garnet. Splendent, jet-black dodecahedrons to about 7 mm are festooned on the sculptural serpentine matrix on this fine old-time piece from San Benito County and the Don Belsher Collection. The back has been sawed to enhance the display quality. Accompanied by four labels, this is an excellent and very rich example from this noted locale. Valued $500
