Item Description

Please note that this specimen was erroneously labeled as Grossular from Turmiq in Pakistan. This was a common mistake years ago as the correct locality for these specimens was not revealed until a fair amount of specimens had been sold on the market. The piece is actually from Afghanistan, and despite the fact that this province is incredibly well-known for its pegmatite minerals (Tourmaline, Spodumene, etc.), these specimens are actually from a metamorphic skarn deposit. These are some of the lesser known Garnets from this area, as most people associate Garnets with Pakistani localities. This piece hosts a sharp, lustrous, well-formed, dark greenish-brown dodecahedral crystals of Andradite Garnet measuring up to 1.1 cm associated with small "rosettes" of greenish-black Clinochlore on matrix. The piece is damage free on the display side, but it is contacted on the back. An attractive thumbnail specimen from this interesting occurrence in Afghanistan.
