Item Description

Without question, the world's finest Anglesite crystals have been found in Touissit, Morocco. The best of these specimens are notably large, gemmy and colorful for the species. This piece is an old-time specimen, I'm guessing back to the 1970s, as the original label erroneously says it's from Mibladen, before Touissit was really known to collectors. A large (5.6 cm), sharp, lustrous thick bladed crystal of Anglesite sits atop porous Galena matrix. When backlit, you can see the crystal is actually gemmy inside and showy a mixture of virtually colorless hues and some vibrant yellow spots towards the center. The top of the crystal has interrupted growth where it was intergrown with the top of the pocket wall. There is an obvious ding on the front face, so the piece is not damage-free, but it's still a 2-inch+ crystal on matrix, which is virtually unseen from any other locality outside of Touissit. These are now seldom seen on the market, especially with crystals this size. Valued $1,000-$1,500.
From the collection of Colin Manlove.
