Item Description

A superior and very well-defined example of the RARE and classic nodules of Anthophyllite from Hermanov. The outer layer is composed of silvery-golden "needle"-like crystals of the rare magnesium iron inosilicate hydroxide Anthophyllite (an Amphibole species) which gives way to a mossy-green colored layer of a Chlorite Group minerral culminating with a deep bronze-brown colored "core" of Phlogopite Mica. The label indicates that Garnet is present, but I'm not entirely sure where it would be on the piece. The two halves fit together beautifully creating a superb complete nodule with wonderful semi-spherical form. A lot of the species are mishapen and not nearly and well-arranged and this one. This is rare old classic material and very desirable on the market for its uniqueness and beauty. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#11491). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
