Item Description

When it comes to Apatite, purple is by far the most desirable color for collectors, due to its rarity. Even places like China have been known to produce purple Apatites. This piece features and fairly sharp, translucent, purple hexagonal crystal of Apatite associated with whitish colored scalenohedra of Calcite plus a flattened "rosette" of silvery colored Hematite(?) - (possibly Molybdenite) on matrix. To the best of my knowledge, Hematite is not reported from Yaogangxian, but I purchased it driectly from a Chinese dealer in a parcel of mixed pieces from Yaogangxian. If nothing else, we know the piece is certainly from China, but I can't find a locality listed that produced purple Apatite with Hematite, so I left the locality. If you're a Chinese mineral collector, or if you collect Apatites in general, don't miss out on this one. The Apatite measures 7 mm, the largest Calcite measures 21 mm, and the Hematite(?) "rosette" measures 12 mm.
