Item Description

Rare and rich old-time apophyllite from this obscure island in the Faroe Islands of Denmark, located in the Atlantic Ocean between Scotland and Iceland. The basalts here have produced fine Zeolite Group specimens and this is an outstanding example. Stout, sharp, porcelaneous crystals, to 3.8 cm, are aesthetically set on the mounded matrix. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 933 and acquired from Lindemann in the 1950s or 60s, with this low number. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Comes with three old faded labels, one with a 1852 date on the back!
