Item Description

Aquamarine and phenakite combinations are rare from Mt. Antero and this is a super cute miniature from the Kay Robertson Collection # 4374. A 1.3 x 0.9 cm, sharp, glassy, doubly terminated, tabular rhombic phenakite spearpoint is dramatically set with a bit of feldspar near one end of a gemmy, rich sky-blue, textbook hexagonal aquamarine crystal. Both ends of the aqua are contacted, but there appears to be little, if any, damage. We realized that the label says there is Quartz on the piece, but the boys in the office agree that it's a Phenakite crystal. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). Kay's label says the small crystal is quartz, but after examining the crystal form closely, we believe this to be a phenakite crystal, not a quartz. An exceptional, desirable and rare combination from here. A MUST for the species or locality collector.
