Item Description

Cianciana is a classic locality for aragonite and sulfur combination specimens. The front of this fine, sculptural, two-sided piece is covered with glassy, colorless, pseudohexagonal, aragonite prisms to 1.5 cm with accenting sulfur around the edges. ACTUALLY, THEY ARE PSEUDOMORPH CRYSTALS OF CALCITE, HAVING REPLACED ARAGONITE. Bright, canary-yellow sulfur coats most the aragonite on the backside. Periphery wear is noted, but is a modest detraction to this old-timer. An A.E. Foote label is attached to the piece, dating from 1876-1900. Note these are also fluorescent. Valued, $500-ish, Ex Larry Krause Collection.
