Item Description

A nearly 80 year old specimen from what was a unique find inside the Ziegenfuss Quarry. Apparently, a large cave of Aragonite was discovered in the 1930's, and few surviving specimens are still around today. The cave was removed, and to the best of my knowledge, no more specimens were ever found. This piece is the largest Aragonite from this famous cave discovery that I have handled. It hosts several CRYSTALLIZED stalactites of Aragonite on massive Aragonite matrix. The piece comes from the collection of Richard Kosnar, who obtained it from noted geologist and Pennsylvania native, Allen Heyl (Aheylite). A cool and attractive display specimen from a hard to find locality.
