Item Description

An impressive, large, sculptural and VERY RARE 360-degree monolith of ARAGONITE from this extinct California Pb-Cu-Au-Ag-Zn-Mn mine, that intermittently operated from 1918 to 1952. The striking piece is comprised mostly of dense clusters of very elongated glassy aragonite crystals with some nubby crystals. MINDAT lists the species for the locale, but there are NO examples in the Photo Gallery. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. He passed away in 2020. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011. This amazing piece displays well without aid, as the base has been sawed. Rare, perhaps UNIQUE large aragonite from the locale. A must for the species or locality collector.
