Item Description

When it comes to Tsumeb, one of the most classic, and highly sought after species of the hundreds found at this famous locality is Azurite. This piece features a fine quality, classic, very sharp and rather lustrous, striated, deep midnight blue crystal of Azurite measuring 2.1 cm associated with several more Azurites of equal quality on minor matrix. I LOVE the morphology on the main crystal, as it's not a simple monoclinic blade or prism, but rather a more robust and complex form featuring rarely seen {102} and {013} faces! A tiny bit of a green mineral can be seen on the back of the piece, and I don't think it's Malachite, but likely Tsumebite / Arsentsumebite or Bayldonite. If you're a fan of crystal forms, or you collect worldwide Azurites, Tsumeb minerals, or fine documented antique specimens, do not pass up a chance to get your hands on this very attractive, fine quality piece from what most people consider to be the world's greatest mineral locality. Tsumeb specimens are rising in value by the minute it seems, and pieces like this are scooped up by collectors almost immiediately after they are offered on the market. The piece comes with a gorgeous old time antique hand-written label from the famed mineral dealer Wilhelm Maucher of Munich, Germany. Considering that Maucher died in 1930, the piece is at LEAST 90 years old, and almost certainly over 100 years old. Another dealer label from Bill Metropolis accompanies the specimen as well.
