Item Description

Classic and excellent azurite from the historic mines at Chessy, the Type Locality. The aesthetically intergrown trio of "balls" is composed of sharp, moderately lustrous, royal-blue azurite crystal nicely accented with contrasting malachite. Complete all-around and pristine, this is very fine floater specimen from this famed locale. These ancient copper mines opened in the Middle Ages and closed in 1875! Old-time very fine azurite from the Kay Robertson Collection # 11643 and acquired from Roberts Minerals in 1988 at the MSSC Show. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). Sculptural intergrown balls of this quality are very uncommon.
