Item Description

When it comes to Azurite, there are a few world localities that immediately spring to mind in terms of the best quality specimens. Over the last 15 years or so, the specimens from Milpillas have risen into the ranks of some of the finest examples of this beloved species ever found. The best specimens from this loclaity are some of the sharpest, most lustrous and richly colored (often gemmy) crystals of Azurite from anywhere Sadly, the oxidized zone is finished, and it is likely that we may never se another crumb of this material to come out of this prolific locality again. With that said, if you're a fan of Azurites or specifically these pieces from Milpillas, don't miss out on this attractive miniature specimen. The piece is filled with excellent quality, very sharp, highly lustrous, thick, blocky, intense midnight blue crystals of Azurite measuring up to a full 2.2 cm which are accented by green Malachite here and there. The piece is crystallized on all sides, with no matrix to be seen. While many of the crystals are in fine condition, there are a few contacts here and there, but it is actually on those contacts where the Azurite has started to alter to Malachite, creating the beautiful association. The color combination of the Azurite with the Malachite is a true classic in the mineral world, and if you're a fan of copper-bearing minerals, secondary ore minerals or just world wide Azurites, do not pass up the opportunity to get your hands on one of these contemporary classics, as they are fast disappearing from the market. Originally valued in our inventory at $1,250.
