Azurite in Calcite

This is a robust and super lustrous Azurite crystal from Tsumeb on matrix associated with a bit of Calcite, really nestled within the calcite to be exact - a highly unusual association for here, or anywhere! This large miniature sized piece has a display face featuring a brilliant, doubly terminated, royal-blue Azurite crystal reclined on matrix displaying its prominence. The big crystal measures two inches in length and and one and a half inches across and has sharp edges and great luster with striations parallel to its length. It is rimmed almost all the way around by Calcite or Calcite-bearing matrix. There is another, smaller, mostly complete, 1.5 cm crystal poking out from behind. It sits nicely for display. We have seen thousands of Tsumeb pieces - literally. This is a unique azurite. Not sure why, but then, that is the wonder of Tsumeb!
