A fine, older Azurite specimen from the less well-known Sierra Rica Mine in Chihuahua, Mexico. The scintillating blue Azurites grow in lustrous rosettes up to 3 mm, and they are distributed aesthetically across the hills and dales of the amethystine Quartz matrix. Between the Azurite and Quartz is a grey, botryoidal layer of a secondary coating of calcite. There are also small clusters of tiny yellow botryoids on the piece, identity unknown (mimetite?). Such nicely formed Azurite rosettes from Sierra Rica are rare, and the contrast with the grey substrate creates a beautiful look. This is a classic find, I believe from the 1960s or before, and seldom seen for sale. This is an excellent example. Valued $750-1000
