Item Description

A classic specimen of the famous Azurite "Suns" from the renowned Malbunka Copper Mine in the Northern Territory of Australia. The piece shows the classic semi-flattened-"rosette" form that is commonly associated with these specimens. It's in great shape all around, and really looks beautiful on all side. The back of the piece shows a thin layer of silvery-beige Kaolinite (the label calls it calcareous siltstone). These specimens are not as common as they once were about 10 years ago, so be sure to pick this one up if you collect secondary ore minerals or minerals of Australia. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#12526). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
