Item Description

When it comes to Azurite, the specimens from Bisbee are among the finest and most desirable examples in the world, which is saying something considering that the species is found in thousands of localities around the world. This impressive cabinet display specimen is one of the best pieces that we've had to offer from the Holbrook Mine / Shaft in Bisbee. It features a full coverage of superb, sparkling, highly lustrous rosettes of navy-blue Azurite blades creating this sculptural and eye-catching specimen. Very minor mint-green colored Malachite can be seen along the edges, and there is a bit of oxidized matrix underneath. The entire display face of the piece is in SUPERB condition, with no major nicks or bruising, and the only "damage" is around the periphery where it was removed from the pocket wall. For reference, you can read about this material / locality in The Mineralogical Record, Vol 12, pages 256-319; and Vol 24, pages 421-436. The piece is from the collection of Brian Kosnar, who obtained the specimen from the collection of Jim Minette in the early 2010s. Priced in the inventory at $6,000.
