Item Description
Babingtonite specimens are very rare and are seldom available from the well-known Lane Quarry at Amherst. Dense, jackstraw nests of lustrous, jet-black blades richly and aesthetically cover the scuptural vug lined with classic, light mint-green prehnite botroyoids. Showy, excellent and rare combination material from this noted Traprock (basalt) quarry that opened in 1897. Probably this is very old-time material, but no proof, sadly. Ex Schlichter Collection. Valued at $500-750. MUCH BETTER IN PERSON, as the light green prehnite against the black babingtonite was difficult to photograph.
