Item Description

Baddeleyite is a rare zirconium oxide was named after Joseph Baddeley, a British geologist who first found the mineral in Sri Lanka. The Baddeleyite crystals from Phalaborwa are some of the best crystals of the species ever found, though rarely available on the matrix. This large thumbnail specimen features a few jet-black prismatic crystals measuring 1.0 cm long, sitting in/on grey Calcite matrix. The crystals are not fully-terminated, but defined prism faces can be seen with good luster. If you collect rarities, these are seldom seen on the market, and this is a decent reference specimen of this very rare material.
