Banded Onyx Carving, Starfish / Sea Star

We purchased this piece from our supplier in India who said it originates from Nepal, just on the other side of the Indian border. It's a beautiful specimen of banded multicolor Onyx with colors ranging from golden to orange to reddish to cream to white and colorless which is skillfully hand-carved into a five-armed starfish or sea star shape. I love the smaller circular "suckers" (which are actually called tube feet) that are carved all over the surface of the piece. A beautiful carving, and a very worthwhile pickup for anybody who collects gem carvings or colorful display pieces for a curio cabinet, or even a gift for a loved one. The piece weighs 27.88 grams.
