Item Description

A classic, old-time, combination specimen from the famous iron mines at Frizington. Glassy, lustrous and translucent, hematite-coated barite crystals and tan, curved, saddle-shaped, dolomite crystals compose this very sculptural crust. The large barite is 3.5 cm. Dolomite specimens from Frizington are RARE, as NO dolomite specimen appear in MINDAT for this famous locale. Broken crystals and a bit of periphery wear are noted, but this remains a significant and rare combination specimen from this noted locale. This showy combo piece is probably from either the Mowbray or Parkside Mines. Ex Robert Whitmore Collection.
