Item Description

This specimen is at least 40 years old, and possibly older as it resembles other Barites from Hartsel that I have seen which were found in the 1960's and 1970's. This area has produced some of the best known Barites from Colorado, and these specimens are sought after by Colorado collectors. This beautiful and showy display features a predominant 5.8 cm bladed crystal of Barite with a soft golden-yellow hue sitting atop a matrix of dozens of smaller crystals of Barite which transition from golden-yellow to a blue hue. The main Barite has a tiny nick near the tip, but overall, the piece is in very good shape, with the obvious edge wear around the periphery where it was removed from the pocket wall. I love how the piece sits on its own and displays beautifully without the aid of a base or clay. Priced in the inventory at $750. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds (Specimen #RR0414) who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
