Item Description

Northumberland Mine, Nevada barytes bear a strong resemblance to classic English barytes, as the photos testify. This impressive large plate consists of large, glassy, translucent, crystals with gray bodies and sharp, amber, chisel terminations. The striking large smokestack crystal is 9.4 cm In great shape, overall, with only a barely noticeable bit of termination edge wear to the large crystal and the noted periphery wear is certainly a minimal detraction. High quality large barytes such as this, are seldom available from this locale. Probably mined in the 1980s. Ex. Robert Whitmore Collection. See the 1985 Mineralogical Record issue: Vol. 16, #1, pp. 37-41.
