Item Description

From a find around 2002 in Bolivia. This discovery at the Estano Orcko mine in the Colavi District was short-lived, but produced some wonderful Barite specimens. I think that their appearance, aesthetics and displayability are second to the excellent quality of the Barite crystals themselves. These crystals are some of the finest quality Barites I have ever seen from Bolivia and compare favorably to gem crystals from any other world locality. This piece hosts good quality, sharp, well-formed, lustrous, water-clear to translucent tabular blades measuring up to 7 mm on matrix . The final touch to the Barite is that they are sitting atop beautiful, tiny, crystallized, sharp, lustrous, compressed rhombohedra of chocolate brown Siderite on matrix. We haven't had one of these pieces to offer for several years, so don't pass it by. Ex Dave Bergman Collection. Dave is a Colorado miner (formerly the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s) and the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar. See Dave's photo mining at the Sweet Home on page 58 of Peter Bancroft's book "Gem and Crystal Treasures". The piece was given to Dave as a gift by his son-in-law, Rich Kosnar in June of 1984 and the hand-written label from Kosnar accompanies the piece.
