Item Description

This locality has produced some of the most classic and easily recognizable Barite specimens from anywhere in the United States. The beautiful blue color combined with the excellent quality of the crystals makes them a Colorado classic. This piece features a group of prismatic crystals of GEMMY blue Barite in parallel growth. The crystals are in great condition overall, with only a small nick near the top/back edge of the largest crystal. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes mounted in a "Perky" box with a typed label that states the specimen was personally collected by Wulff.
