Item Description

Water-clear, sharply terminated barite prisms from the Book Cliffs are a classic and desirable Colorado species. A textbook 2.9 cm crystal is dramatically set on the side an impressive, euhedral calcite cleavage. Another barite set on the back side adds character to this aesthetic and fine combination example from the Kay Robertson Collection # 7173. She acquired this from the Lidstrom's at the Tucson Show in 1974. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). Barites with large calcite rhombs, such as this, are very uncommon from here and this is a very fine example.
