Item Description
Barite is not a species that people often associate with GEM quality crystals, and typically the good gem crystals are colorless. This is NOT the case for the world-class Barites from Elk Creek, South Dakota which are among the most beloved and popular Barite specimens from any locality in the Western Hemisphere. The specimen features a predominant, sharp, well-formed, GEMMY, beautiful rich amber-golden color crystal measuring 2.7 cm aesthetically sitting atop golden-yellow Calcite crystals on matrix. No damage outside of the base of the edges of the piece where it was removed from the pocket wall. Priced at $2,800 in our inventory. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
