Item Description

A very hard to find specimen of the beautiful and elusive Barites from Rock River. This piece features dozens if not hundreds of incrdibly sharp, well-formed, lustrous, orthorhombic crystals of soft silvery-blue colored Barite covering virtually all sides of this hefty cabinet display specimen. The largest crystal is actually DOUBLY-TERMINATED (rare for the locale) and measures 1.7 cm. Some of the Barites actually show slight internal "phantoms" when backlit. This material was on the market around 20 years ago, but has since dried up and is rarely seen for sale. Valued at $950 for size, quality and obscurity on the market. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#11301). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
