Item Description

Northumberland Mine, Nevada barites bear a strong resemblence to classic English barites, as the photos testify. This signficant, large single is glassy, translucent, has rich amber color and a sharp, chisel termination. Complete all-around and very, very nearly pristine, with only a barely noticeable bit of termination edgewear and trivial sidewear on the back. The contact and cleavage at the base are noted, but are not a detraction to this excellent crystal. High quality barites, such as this, are seldom on the market from this locale. Probably mined in the 1980s. Ex Robert Whitmore Collection. Hefty at 177 grams. Valued at $650-850.
