Item Description

A striking rabbit ears pair of barite crystals is dramatically set on the sculptural large mounded matrix of intergrown flattened calcite rhombs on this impressive combination from the late 1990s - early 2000s finds at the famous Meikle Gold Mine. The pristine very glassy and lustrous, translucent to transparent, golden-yellow tabular barites have textbook chisel terminations. The impressive large barite on the right with the interesting double termination is doubly terminated and is 8.2 cm long. The translucent gray-yellow calcites have glassy interiors with matte-lustre coated calcite overgrowth faces. See the 1999 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 30, No. 3. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. He passed away in 2020. An outstanding large Meikle Mine barite and calcite combination with amazing form.
