Item Description

Barite specimens are rare from the famous Himmelsfurst Mine. Opposing clusters of large, very glassy, translucent, white blades with striking sawtooth edges form a sculptural and dramatic large two-sided specimen. The blades reach 7.0 cm. White barite is very uncommon from here, as most examples are brown, oxide tinted. A bit of noted bruising is certainly acceptable in the context of this undoubtedly old-time specimen. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2502 and acquired in the May, 1962. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). An exceptional old-time barite from this renowned locale. Valued at $400.
