Item Description

This is a wonderful Baryte specimen from the Denton Mine in Southern Illinois. Many of the Barytes from around Hardin County can be white, dull and/or opaque, but this piece features beautifully lustrous, gemmy/translucent, soft golden colored blades which are aesthetically perched on Fluorite matrix. The largest composite group of Baryte crystals measures 3.0 cm at its widest dimension. It should be noted that the Fluorite has a saw mark on the back. No major damage that I can find on the Baryte group, and the piece displays beautifully. It's hard to convey the overall quality and beauty in the photo / video, but take my word for it, this is a very good piece, and certainly would make a great addition to any worldwide Baryte collection or a suite of minerals from Southern Illinois. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#183 US), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection over the next two to three years through our various platforms.
