Beryl var: Emerald (classic Russian locality)

These famous historic Emerald specimens are unquestionably some of the most well-known examples of the material dating back to the early days of mineral collecting. Traditionally, specimens were labeled as coming "Tokovaya / Tokovaja", and you will see this locality listed old museum collections. Sometimes they were simply labeled as coming from "Siberia", but the correct locality is the Malyshevo area in the Sverdlovsk Oblast of Russia. This piece is a fine quality and showy old-time specimen featuring several crystals that exhibit well-formed, smooth, lustrous, hexagonal prism faces, intergrown with silvery schist matrix, easily identifying it as coming from Malyshevo. The piece has a fantastic saturated chrome green color and the crystals GLOW when backlit. Fine quality all around, very good sized for the locality, and incredibly hard to find on the market today.
