Item Description

A wonderful older specimen of classic San Diego County material featuring a 2.1 cm, GEMMY, beautiful bi-colored (pink with a green cap) Tourmaline crystal intergrown with a WATER CLEAR, sharp, lustrous, colorless Quartz crystal. The piece is not repaired, and looks better in person than the photos might indicate as the crystals grew at a somewhat bizarre angle to one another. The Quartz crystal is in fairly good condition, and if you look closely, the termination is not damaged, but actually has many tiny "teeth"-like terminations on the pyramidal faces. The piece is contacted around the periphery where it was removed from the pocket wall, but it's a cool / unusual specimen that would make a great addition to any Tourmaline suite or a collection of San Diego County minerals. Valued at $950 in the inventory. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#5120). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
