Item Description

The famous pegmatites at Virgem da Lapa produced a striking NEW find of tourmalines around Christmas, 2009. The body of the gemmy and lustrous pencil is a pleasing bottle-green with subtle, contrasting, teal-blue zones. The lustrous, complex pyramidal termination is opaque super dark green. This crystal has a lepidolite crystal at the base with nubby cluster of rare phosphate, greifensteinite, above. Complete all-around and pristine. The slight contact near the termination has no damage, per se. The fat crystal is unusual for the lot we received. The gemmy body is the bottle-green and there is a bit of olive-green near the termination. One side of the flattened parallel-growth and tiered crystal is covered with purple lepidolite crystals. The "plume" at the top is striking. Complete all-around. Some of the terminations are contacted, with very minimal damage and the ding at the base of the lepidolite side is noted. An impressive, showy, highly unusual and rare tourmaline pair from the new find. 27 grams total mass. 25 grams and 2 grams.
